Good news for Borjomi

At the end of 2007 we received the message that due to a health reform in Georgia, the Borjomi Maternity House will cease to exist seperately and will become a part of a multi-profile hospital, which will be well-equiped and modern.
It is obvious that we are very pleased with this news. Mothers and children will be treated in the right way and our funds can be redirected to other places of urgent need. Meanwhile we decided to enlarge our support to our project in the Ukraine. For more information you can read the relevant pages about the Ukraine.

In case you want to study the original plan, please read below.

Original plan
Also in Georgië there is an urgent need for support and a variety of possible projects is available. KinderZon has got the intention to start a project for improved water supply in an maternity clinic. In the small town called Borjomi. In this clinic approximately 500 children are born yearly. The pump and the waterpipe should have been replaced years ago. Also inside the clinic several improvements have to be made with regard to sanitary. You can imagine how important water is for a maternity clinic. Borjomi is located 2 hours drive from Tiblisi (see map, below the red dot of the town Chiatura, around the ‘M’ of the river ‘Mtkvari’).

Also for this project KinderZon wants to be sure that our support will benefit the clinic for the full 100%. Momentarily, we are investigating the best way to move forward before taking a final decision.

Update March 2007

We have established contacts with local contactpersons for both the projects. In Georgia we work together with Sandra Roelofs – wife of President Saakašvilli. Sandra is ambassador of the SOCO Foundation. In the Ukraine we work together with Beja Kluiters-Albers and her foundation Spoetnik. Before starting the real action we need to ensure the fundraising. Last December we started our fundraising campagne with a mailing to socially engaged companies and a selected group of individuals. We are proud with the resulat from this first round, being three thousand euro for both projects together. It is a good start! We would like to thank all people who helped us with this.

Especially we would likt to thank Con Tanghe. Con recently retired at ProRail, being the Dutch Rail infrastructurecompany. For his goodbye he asked his colleagues to collect money for KinderZon and doubled the total amount himself. Greatgift with which we can make a lot of kids happy
